What is a FASSAI License?

FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) is an organization in India responsible for regulating and supervising the safety of food products.




FSSAI licenses are mandatory for food business operators in India. These licenses ensure that food products meet the standards set by the authorities and are safe for consumption.


A FASSAI license is a certificate issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to food business operators (FBOs) who manufacture, store, transport, or distribute food products in India. It is mandatory for every FBO to obtain a FASSAI license or registration, depending on the size and nature of their business.

There are different types of FSSAI licenses based on the scale and nature of the food business, such as

  1. FSSAI Basic License/Registration

  2. FSSAI State License

  3. and FSSAI Central License.

Food business operators must obtain the appropriate license based on their business size and operations.


How to apply for Food License?

To get a FASSAI license, you need to apply online through the FoSCoS portal. You need to fill the application form, upload the required documents, pay the fees, and verify your application. You will receive an Application Reference Number (ARN) to track the status of your application. You will get your FASSAI license and certificate within 3-6 working days after submitting your application.
